I recently got a chance to share my vision for families about the next steps for our education system in the Calgary Sun.
Alberta once led the world when it came to our test scores for literacy and numeracy. But now, Alberta families are now growing increasingly worried about the state of our education system.

Julie Ali The education system in Alberta is OK. I mean there are excellent teachers at Strathcona High School and at Grandview Heights School but what is missing is specialized supports and services at the elementary level and junior high school level for kids with disabilities. This might explain why families take their special needs kids out of the public school system and put them into schools designed for them. We need to increase access to psychological and psychiatric testing; we need to provide individualized program planning from day 1 and not so late that the child is impacted irretrievably. We need to put the money into the children rather than administration. I favour removal of the school board system in Alberta as it sucks out money from the system. I believe there should be only one school system and that this school system should be directly managed by Alberta Education.
